What do KOBU mochi cakes taste like?
KOBU mochi cakes feature mochi’s beloved soft and chewy texture. They are naturally subtly sweetened from dates and monk fruit and have creaminess from coconut milk and coconut oil.
The Matcha mochi cake has an earthy flavor from green tea and hemp protein. The Ube Taro flavor is reminiscent of sweet potato. Black Sesame is bold and nutty. Chocolate is a classic cocoa flavor. They’re all irresistibly delicious!
How are KOBU mochi cakes different from other microwaveable cake and muffin cup brands?
KOBU is the first and only Asian-inspired microwaveable cake cup brand. It's also the only gluten free and vegan cake cup on the market.
KOBU is crafted with superfoods, uses premium ingredients, and has a superior nutrient profile to your typical cake cups. Plus, KOBU features mochi's beloved, bouncy texture.
KOBU's fun flavors have 4x less sugar than competing brands. KOBU mochi cakes contain 6 - 7g sugar from whole organic dates. Other microwaveable cakes and muffins contain 16 - 33g added refined sugar (!).
How do I make KOBU mochi cakes?
1. Remove and discard the film lid.
2. Add 4 tablespoons of water or milk of your choice to the fill line on the outside of the cup. Pro tip: we love replacing water with coffee in the chocolate flavor!
3. Stir well.
4. Microwave for 60 seconds. NOTE: If you have a weak microwave and the product still looks liquid after 60 seconds, cook for an additional 10-15 seconds.
5. Cool for 2 minutes (or longer, if desired). The longer it sits, the denser and more chewy it will become!
6. Enjoy!
For best texture, eat KOBU mochi cakes within 24 hours after cooking.
Can I microwave KOBU mochi cakes in their cups?
Yes! KOBU's paper cups are microwave-safe and plastic-free. Be careful-- the cups will be hot after you microwave them!
Can I make KOBU mochi cakes without a microwave?
Yes! Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, transfer the powder mix into an oven-safe container such as a ramekin, add 4 tablespoons of water and stir well, bake for 20 - 25 minutes, then cool completely.
Are KOBU mochi cakes gluten free and vegan?
Yes and yes!
What is the shelf-life of KOBU mochi cakes?
We recommend storing KOBU mochi cake cups in a cool, dry place and enjoying them within 6 months from receipt.
Can I recycle or compost KOBU packaging?
KOBU's plastic-free paper cups are recyclable and compostable. KOBU's film lids are not recyclable.
My ube taro mochi cake turned blue! Is that normal?
Yes, don't worry -- your mochi cake is safe to eat! Ube and taro contain natural pigments which are responsible for their purple colors and are sensitive to pH changes. Adding water and microwaving KOBU mochi cakes raises their pH level and may cause a natural color change in the ube taro flavor from purple to blue. KOBU never uses artificial colors or dyes.
My mochi cake has some white spots-- is that normal?
Yes, don't worry -- your mochi cake is safe to eat! The white spots are from coconut milk. Mixing well helps incorporate all the ingredients and can resolve this.
